When to Bring in Help

Professional help (a free counselor or, when needed, an attorney) becomes valuable when the paperwork gets denied without clear reason, your timeline is tight, there are legal complications, or you're simply overwhelmed and need someone managing the process alongside you.

Since qualified help is free at the counselor level, there's rarely a real downside to at least having the conversation before deciding to go it entirely alone.
